Hello. I began studying with Sufi Master Adnan Sarhan in 1987. I had read about Sufism in my teens and took it to heart as a spiritual path but it was not until 1987, when I went to a workshop with Adnan Sarhan that it began as a practise. The workshops have enormous depth and power. Adnan has a deep integrity of being able to live what he teaches. In my first workshops my experience was so profound and so lasting it was clear that Adnan's work had a connection with something truly divine.

My own teaching is directly related to the work with Adnan. It is an organic teaching that grows as I learn more about what it is to be spiritual. In the work with Adnan spiritual development comes as a result of developing a deep concentration and intuition along side maturing as a sound human being,. That is a life long work that continues under the guidance of a teacher that can discern what is spirit and what is ego and I have not met anyone beside Adnan that is able to make that distinction so clearly. We are all working toward creating a more meaningful and healthier relationship to ourselves and the world and it is teachers like Adnan who really dive deeply into the source of what brings us to more positive way of being.

There is a growing movement of dance meditation that springs from a spiritual path. In the sufi path it is movement that arises out of a deep concentration in the moment which intuits the balance between intense concentration and playful expression. The classes involve slow movement, chanting, listening to drumming, dancing, dancing with the veil, whirling sometimes, and yoga like exercise. The surrendering to the breath and the time stills the mind and awakens the spirit.

People who attend the class really determine how it forms. If it is all people wanting to dance and release then there is a lot of dancing, a lot of rigorous shaking and strong music. If it is a group who have been very active physically then we chant more and go into deeper states of movement.. It is dependent on the time, the space and the people and everyone has a different makeup and capacity but they share the need for union, peace, inner awareness and contentment. The more evolved the teacher, the easier it is to come to these states. Teaching is really the art of transmitting.

The classes inspire and awaken the deeper aspirations of creativity, love, centeredness and connection that we know create more richness of life and enjoyment and purpose. And through the experiential opening of the heart, with movement, music and breath, there is a direct way to transcend the ego, the mind and the emotions. In any class, when people enter into a deep state of contemplation and unity, and their minds are emptied of chatter and conflict you can feel the spirit. And the more we learn how to create that space within ourselves and as a group of people the more we develop in the spirit.

Here is a comment from a woman in Houston who attended my workshops in 2008 -

"I took her class a few months ago and was hooked. Tamsin (Nahari) is a quiet yet compelling person. Soft-spoken, reserved, a presence just oozes out of her. I do practice seated meditation regularly. Now, to take meditation to a movement/dance level is really something else. I can't explain it but it was addicting for me. I'm a shimmy around the house by myself kinda gal but to incorporate the movement, veil, breath, and focus all together for a purpose...well, it added a whole other dimension to dance for me. And at the end of class when she danced for us, it was hypnotic, mesmerizing, and peaceful all at the same time. I recommend her highly for those looking outside the dance-box. She is one of mt favorite teachers."
